DESCRIPTION

In The Scalable Tale of Scala The Bard, your aim is to defeat an infinite waves of enemies and see to what level you can get before you die!

You cast spells using your trusty Hulusi (葫芦丝). by playing notes using your numpad in the C Major scale!

You start out with a random spell and a string of notes you need to play in order to cast it (example: Feeble Fire Beam of Doom (78) 318762, which will deal 78 Fire damage to the enemy when you type 318762 on the numpad). Every 3 levels, you are given the option to either get new spells from shops, or get some more health to survive longer.

ELEMENTS

This game uses an element system based on the traditional Chinese element system 五行 (Wu Xing), specifically the Weakening cycle. This is a guide for which element is strong against which. There is also an image version below. Each enemy you face will have a random element, and attacking with an effective move will deal more damage, while attacking with a non effective move (ex: Wood against Fire) will deal less damage.

This game was created as part of the 96 hour Game Maker's Toolkit Game Jam 2024, and was designed around the theme "Built to Scale". We interpreted this theme and made a game that keeps scaling and getting harder theoretically infinitely, as well as in the design of the character being a lizard, and the attacks being cast using musical scales.
